역사는 억지와 폭력이 쓰는 역사가 아니라 학문과 논리가 쓰는 역사다. 지금 5.18역사를 누가 쓰느냐를 놓고 폭력과 학문이 대결하고 있다. 이 세상 모든 역사는 폭력으로 쓰인 것이 없다. 폭력은 말한다. 지만원은 정신병자이고 그래서 지만원이 주장하는 것은 무조건 허위라고. 그런데 저들은 증명해야 한다. 지만원이 어째서 정신병자인지를. 증명할 길이 없는 것이다. 반면 지만원은 말한다.
