ON OSAMA BIN LADEN

THE PRESIDENT:  Good evening.  Tonight, I can report to the American people and to the world that the United States has
conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of al Qaeda, and a terrorist who’s responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent men, women, and children.
안녕하십니까?
오늘 저녁 미국민과 전세계 국민들께  오사마 빈 라덴을 사살한 미국의
지휘 작전을 보고합니다.
테러리스트 오사마 빈 라덴은  알카에다의 두목이자 수천명의 무고한
사람들과 부녀자와  아이들을 죽인 책임이 있는 자입니다.

It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history.  The images of 9/11 are seared into our national memory — hijacked planes cutting through a cloudless September sky; the Twin Towers collapsing to the ground; black smoke billowing up from the Pentagon; the wreckage of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where the actions of heroic citizens saved even more heartbreak and destruction.
근 10여년전  화창한  9월의날은 미국 국민 역사상 최악의 공격으로  검게 타버린 날이
었습니다.  9/11의 광경은 그을려진 우리 국가적인 기억으로 될겁니다.
납치된 비행기로  구름한점 없던 9월의 하늘을 찢어놓고 쌍둥이 빌딩은 바닥으로 무너져내렸습니다. 검은 연기는국방성에서 피어올랐습니다
펜실바니아  생크빌에 추락한 Flight 93기의 잔해에서 애국적인 시민들의 행동들은
더많은 사람들의 가슴을 아프게 하는것과  파괴에서 구한것입니다.  

And yet we know that the worst images are those that were unseen to the world.  The empty seat at the dinner table.  Children who were forced to grow up without their mother or their father.  Parents who would never know the feeling of their child’s embrace.  Nearly 3,000 citizens taken from us, leaving a gaping hole in our hearts.
우리는 아직도 최악의 광경은 보여지지 않았다고 생각합니다.
저녁 식탁에 텅빈 자리와 어머니 아버지 없이 혼자 자라야만 하는 어린이들입니다.
부모들는 이런 아이들의 가련함 을  알지못합니다.
 3000여 시민이 마음에  커다란
상처를 남기고 우리 곁을 떠났습니다.

On September 11, 2001, in our time of
grief, the American people came
together.  We offered our neighbors a hand, and we offered the wounded our blood.  We reaffirmed our ties to each other, and our love of community and country.  On that day, no matter where we came from, what God we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we were, we were united as one American family.
2001년 9월11일 애도의 시간에 미국국민은 함께 했습니다.
우린 이웃들에 손을 내밀었고 ,상처입은 우리의 피를 바쳤습니다.
사회와 국가를 사랑하는 우리는 확실하게   결속하였습니다. .
그날은 우리가 어디서 왔던거나 어떤 신에게 기도하거나 어떤 인종이나 민족적인 배경이거나  우리는 하나의 미국민 가족처럼   뭉쳤습니다.

We were also united in our resolve to
protect our nation and to bring those who committed this vicious attack to justice.  We quickly learned
that the 9/11 attacks were carried out by al Qaeda — an organization headed by Osama bin Laden, which had openly declared war on the United States and was committed to killing innocents in our country and around the globe.  And so we went to war against al Qaeda to protect our citizens, our friends, and our allies.
우리는 또한  뭉치었고  국민총화는   잔인하게  정의를  공격을 하는 자들로 부터 우리의
 국가를 지키게 하였습니다.
우리는 9/11공격이 알카에다의 추종세력 조직의 두목인 오사마 빈 라덴은  공공연히 미국에게 선전포고를 하였고 전세계와 미국의 무고한 시민들을 살해하려는 의도를
신속하게 알았습니다.그래서 우리는 우리의 우방들과 친구와시민들을 지키기위해 전쟁에 참여 했었다.

Over the last 10 years, thanks to the tireless and heroic work of our military and our
counterterrorism
professionals, we’ve made great strides in that effort.  We’ve disrupted terrorist attacks and strengthened our homeland defense.  In Afghanistan, we removed the Taliban government, which had given bin Laden and al Qaeda safe haven and support.  And around the globe, we worked with our friends and allies to capture or kill scores of al Qaeda terrorists, including several who were a part of the 9/11 plot.
10년이 넘는 동안 지치지 않고 애국적인 일을 해주신 우리의 군대와  대테러전에 종사하는 요원들에게 감사를 드립니다. 전문가들은  장족의 힘든 일를 이룩하였습니다.
우리는 테라리스트의 공격을 받어 혼란하였으나 미국의 국토방위를 강건하게
했습니다.아프카니스탄에서는.
빈 라덴과   알카이다에 성역제공과 지원을 하던  탈레반 정권을 제거 하였습니다.
전세계 있는  우리의 친구와 우방들과  같이 9/11음모에 가담한 알카이다 테러리스트 잔당을 포함하여  이들을  잡거나 죽게 하는  성과를 올렸습니다.

Yet Osama bin Laden avoided capture and escaped
across the Afghan border into Pakistan.  Meanwhile, al Qaeda continued to operate from along that border and operate through its affiliates across the world
이직까지 오사마 빈라덴은 파키스탄과 아프칸의 국경지역에서 탈출하여 생포를 피해
왔습니다.그 동안에도 알카에다와 연계된 전세계와 국경지역에서 작전을수행해왔습니다.

And so shortly after
taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the toppriority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.
그 이후  지휘본부에서 CIA국장인 레온 파네타에게 지시하였습니다.
빈라덴을 생포하거나 사살하는 일은 이번 전쟁에서 알카이다에게 대항하는  최우선적으로
하여야 할임을 지시하였습니다
.철통같은 경계태세로 빈라덴의 조직망을 파괴하고,와해시키고 대승을 거두는 일입니다.

Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden.  It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground.  I met repeatedly with my national
security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan.  And finally, last week, I
determined that we had
enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation
to get Osama bin Laden
and bring him to justice.
그러던  지난  8월  거의1 년에 걸친 고통스런 일을 하던  우리의 정보 조직에   빈 라덴을 찾아 낼수 있다는 가능성을 보고 받었습니다.
아직 확실하지 않은 사실로  확실한 정보가 있기 까지 ㅤㅁㅓㅊ달이 걸렸습니다.

나의 국가 보안 조직과는 자주 만났고  오사마 빈 라덴이 파키스탄 내륙 깊숙히  안가에 숨어 있다는 더 많은 정보에 관한 가능성을  발전시켜 나갔습니다.
마침내 지난주의 충분한정보는
빈라덴을 법의 심판대로 끌어내는 승인된 작전을  결심하게 하였습니다.

Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.  A small team of Americans carried out the operation with
extraordinary
courage
and capability.  No Americans were harmed.  They took care to avoid civilian casualties.  After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of hisbody.
오늘 나의 지시로 미국은 파키스탄 아보타바드에 있는 안가에 대해 표적을 삼아 작전을
개시하였습니다,
소수정예팀의  미국 병사들이 각별한  용기와 능력으로 작전을 수행하였습니다.
미국 군인들은 다치지 않었습니다.민간인 희생자를 피하여 조심하여 수행했습니다.
총격전이 끝난후 오사마 빈 라덴은 살해되었고 그의
시체는 구금되었습니다.

For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda’s leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies.  The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s to  al Qaeda.
지난 20년간을  통해
빈라덴은 알카이다의 상징이자 두목이었고
지속적인 음모로 우리 나라와 우방과 친구들을 대항하여  공격 하였습니다.
빈라덴의 사망은 가장 뛰어난  업적의 날로 우리 나라가 알카이다에게 각인되는 날입니다.
Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort.  There’s no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us.  We must –- and we will — remain vigilant at home and abroad.
빈 라덴의 사망은 우리의 노력이  끝났음을   표시하는 것이 아닙니다..
알카이다가  계속적인음모로  우리를 공격했다는 것은 의심의 여지없습니다.
우리는 반드시 앞으로도  가정과  국경이 안전하게 되고  유지될것  입니다.

As we do, we must also reaffirm that the United States is not –- and never will be -– at war with Islam.  I’ve made clear, just as President Bush did shortly after 9/11, that our war is not against Islam.  Bin Laden was not a Muslim leader; he was a mass murderer of Muslims.  Indeed, alQaeda has slaughtered scores of
Muslims in many countries, including our own.  So his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.
우리가 한일에  반드시 거듭 말씀드리면  미국은 결코 이슬람과의  전쟁이 아닙니다.
분명히 말하면 부시 대통령이 9/11당시 말한것 처럼 이스람에 대항하는 전쟁이 아닙니다.
빈라덴은 무슬림의 지도자가 아닙니다. 그는 무슬림을 대량학살했습니다.
진정으로 알카이다는 여러나라와 우리 나라를 포함하여  많은 수의 무슬림들을 대량 학살
했습니다.그래서 빈라덴의 종말은
인류의 존엄과  평화를 믿는 모든사람들로 부터 환영을 받고습니다.

Over the years, I’ve repeatedly made clear that we would take action within Pakistan if we knew where bin Laden was.  That is what we’ve done.  But it’s important to note that our counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to bin Laden and the compound where he was
hiding.  Indeed, bin Laden had declared war against Pakistan as well, and ordered attacks against the Pakistani people.
지난 몇해동안  파키스탄 영내에서 작전을 하는것에 관해 계속 명확하게 했습니다.
빈라덴이 있었던 곳을 우리가 아는것에 관해
우리가 해낸 그러나 중요한 점은 파키스탄군은 우리의 대 테러리즘 연합작전을  도음으로 빈라덴이 숨어있는 은신처를 안내하여준 일입니다.사실 빈라덴은 파키스탄에 대항하고 파키스탄 국민들을 공격하도록 명령을 명시하였습니다.

Tonight, I called President Zardari, and my team has also spoken with their Pakistani counterparts.  They agree that this is a good and historic day for both of our nations.  And going forward, it is essential that Pakistan continue to join us in the fight against al Qaeda and itsaffiliates.
오늘 저녁 나는 전화로  대통령 자라디와 통화 ㅤㅎㅒㅆ고 우리 팀이 파키스탄의 야당에게도 이야기 했습니다 .오늘은 좋은  역사적인 날임을 양측 정부가 동의 했습니다.
앞으로는 원칙적으로 우리와 함께  파키스탄 정부는  알카에다 잔당들과 대적하기로 하였습니다.

The American people did not choose this fight.  It came to our shores, and started with the senseless slaughter of our citizens.  After nearly 10 years of service,struggle,
and sacrifice, we know well the costs of war.  These efforts weigh on me every time I, as Commander-in-Chief, have to sign a letter to a family that has lost a loved one, or look into the eyes of a service member who’s been gravely wounded.
미국 국민들은 이런 싸움을 선택을 하지 않습니다.
그들은 우리의 바닷가에 와서 우리의 무고한 국민들을 학살ㅤㅎㅒㅆ습니다.
.그후 10여년의 전쟁기간 동안 투쟁과 희생으로 전쟁의 댓가를 치렀습니다
우리는 전쟁의 댓가를 잘압니다.
 미군 최고 통수권자로로 사랑하는 이를 잃은 가족에게 서명된 편지를 보내야 하고 심각한 부상을 입은 현역군인의 눈을 쳐다봐야 하는 이런 일들은 저를 항상 무겁게 하였습니다.


So Americans understand the costs of war.  Yet as a country, we will never tolerate our security being threatened, nor stand idly by
when our people have been killed.  We will be relentless in defense of our citizens and our friends and allies.  We will be true to the values that make us who we are. And on nights like this one, we can say to those families who have lost loved ones to al Qaeda’s terror:  Justice has been done.
그래서 미국사람들은 전쟁의 댓가를 압니다.
아직 우리는 결코 안보가 협박 당하거나 안일하게 경시되어서 우리의 국민이 죽임을 당하지
말아야 하겠습니다. .가차없는 안보로 우리의 시민들과  친구들과 우방들을 방어하겠습다.
우리가 누구인가를 알게될때는 이러한 가치가 진실이 됩니다..
그리고 오늘밤 이와같이 알카에다의 테러에 사랑하는 이를 잃은 가족들에게  말할수 있습니다.
 정의는 성취되었고 말입니다..

Tonight, we give thanks to the countless intelligence and
counterterrorism professionals who’ve worked
tirelessly to achieve this outcome.  The American people do not see their work, nor know their names.  But tonight, they feel the satisfaction of their work and the result of their pursuit of justice.
오늘밤 우리는  이런 성과에 도달하기위해 피곤을 무릅쓰고 수고한 수많은 정보관계자와 대테레리즘 담당자들에게  감사의 말씀을 전합니다.
미국국민은 그분들의 업무나 이름을 알지 못하지만
오늘밤이 이분들의  업무와 정의 구현 결과에 만족을 느낍니다.

We give thanks for the
men who carried out this operation, for they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country.  And they are part of a generation that has borne the heaviest share of the burden since that September day.
이번 작전을 수행한 우리나라에 복무하는 이분들의 직업정신,애국심,불굴의 용기에
감사를 드립니다.그들은 우리세대의 일원으로 막중한 임무로 9월의 날부터 짊어지었던 무거운 짐을 나누웠습니다.

Finally, let me say to the families who lost loved ones on 9/11 that we have never forgotten your loss, nor wavered in our commitment to see that we do whatever it takes to prevent another attack on our shores.
마지막으로 9/11에 사랑하는 사람들을 잃은 분들께 드립니다.
우리는 당신의 희생을 결코 잊지 않겠습니다
진정한 의지를 보여주어 우리의 바닷가를 공격하는 다른 공격을
방지하ㅤㄱㅖㅆ습니다.


And tonight, let us think back to the sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11.  I know that it has, at times, frayed.  Yet today’s achievement is a testament to the greatness of our country and the determination of the American people.
그리고 오늘밤에  일치 단결하던  9/11로 돌아가서  생각하게 합니다.
내가 알기는 그때 그 당시의 가졌던것들은  소멸되었습니다만..
오늘의 성과는 미국사람 자손 대대로의 유산이고 미국사람들의 결심 입니다.

The cause of securing our country is not complete.  But tonight, we are once again reminded that America can do whatever we set our mind to.  That is the story of our history, whether it’s the pursuit of prosperity
for our people, or the struggle for equality for all our citizens; our commitment to stand up for our values abroad, and our sacrifices to make the world a safer place.
우리나라를 완전하지 못하게 지킨 이유로 오늘밤 우리는 다시 한번 미국국민이 결심한대로 할수 있다는 것을 상기하게 합니다.
우리의 역사의 이야기이자 번영의 추구입니다. 
우리 국민들을 위하여나  우리의 건재함은 세상을 안전한 곳으로 만들기 위해 희생되며 동등함을 위해 투쟁하는 우리의 모든 시민과들 해외에서  우리의 가치를  위해서 입니다.

Let us remember that we can do these things not just because of wealth or power, but because of who we are:  one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
기억하게 하소서  우리가 할수 있는 이런것들이 부유함이나 힘이 아니고
우리는 한 나라의 누구가 되건간에 하나님 아래
보이지 않는 자유와 정의는 모두를 위한것 입니다.
