              나경원을 만난 결과

 

나경원 사무실로부터 1일 전에 연락을 받고 1월 4일 오후 2시 40분부터 약 30분 정도 나경원을 만났다. 내가 쓴 5.18책들은 다 가지고 가서 보여주었다. “제가 이 연구에 18년을 투입한 이유는 오로지 빨갱이 없는 세상을 만들기 위한 것이고, 이 명분은 일생을 걸어도 아깝지 않은 충분한 가치가 있는 것 아니겠습니까” 그런데 내 이런 뜨거운 마음과는 달리 나경원의 의도는 싸늘한 것이었다. 그가 나에게 한 첫 마디는 “다른 사람들을 위원으로 앞세우고 지만원은 뒤에서 코치해주면 안 되겠느냐? 그런 인물을 추천해 줄 수 있느냐?” 이것이었다. 나는 그럴 수 있는 성격의 것이 아니라는 이유를 말해주었다.

 

첫째, 숫적으로 열세한 싸움에서 일당 백을 하려면 제가 직접 해도 어려울 판에, 남이 무슨 수로 내가 18년 연구한 내용을 번갯불에 콩궈 먹듯이 순식간에 소화해서 그것을 자기 것으로 만들어 저들과 싸울 수 있다는 말인가? 내가 연구한 것은 그렇게 작거나 가벼운 것이 아니다. 배경지식이 없으면 내 말뜻도 이해하지 못할 것이다.   

둘째,지만원이 공식적으로 배제되면 진상규명위는 승복력을 상실하게 된다. 

셋째, 지만원이 배제되고, 다른 사람이 들어가면 그는 내가 발굴한 팩트와 논리를 전개할 수 없게 된다. 누가 내 이론을 전개하면 당장 저쪽 사람들이 “그건 지만원 이론이 아니냐, 지만원은 배제된 사람이고 그의 이론은 배제된 이론인데 왜 그의 이론을 여기 와서 펴느냐, 치워라” 이렇게 나오면 그 사람은 반론도 펴보지 못하고 입을 닫게 될 것이다.

 

어찌된 일인지 나경원이 갑자기 명단 발표를 서둘렀다. 1월 7일 인원 선정을 발표할 것이라 광주의 한 언론이  공개했다. 또 다른 한 언론은 나경원이 이렇게 하는 이유는 이순자 여사의 발언에 대해 간접적으로 선긋기를 하려는 시도라 해석했다. 하지만 아래를 보면 그 이유는 다른 데 있는 것 같다. 아래는 나경원과의 만남으로부터 얻은 팩트들이다.

  

1. 나는 서정갑과 조갑제를 먼저 만났다. 그들은 북한군 개입을 부정했다. 그 사람들이 우익의 주류가 아니냐? 

 

2. 북한군 개입을 믿는 국민은 거의 없다. 대부분의 국민이 5.18을 민주화운동으로 알고 있다. 여기에 더해 지만원에 대한 세평도 안 좋다.

 

3. 이런 지만원을 한국당이 위원으로 선정하면, 한국당이 5.18민주화운동을 부정하는 단체로 인식된다. 한국당은 이런 오해 받기 싫다. 지만원을 안으면 한국당 이미지가 추락한다.

 

그는 세상을 거꾸로 읽고 있었다. 무엇이 정의냐가 아니라 무엇이 이로우냐에 의해 당을 이끄는 인물로 보였다. 나경원은 이미 추천명단을 가지고 있을 것 같다. 아마도 서정갑-조갑제가 추천한 인물일 것이다. 이런 생각마저 들었다. 1월 7일, 나경원의 입에서 명단이 나올 것이다. 그것은 한국당 총선 참패의 음산한 서곡이 될 모양이다.

Result of Meeting Nah Kyong-Won

 

I received a communication from Nah Kyong-Won’s office one day before. and met her for about 30 minutes from 2:40 PM on January 04. I brought all the books with me which I wrote about the May 18th and showed them to her. --“The reason why I spent 18 years for this research was for making a world devoid of the Reds. And isn’t this cause not so wasteful and worthwhile enough to stake one’s whole life?” -- But different from the hot and passionate heart of mine, Nah Kyong-Won’s intention was a chilly one. What she uttered first to me was, -- “Can’t you make other person take the post of committee member and coach him from behind? Can you recommend someone suitable to it?” -- In short, it was what she said. I explained her the reason why it is not the matter of such character.

 

Firstly, to fight in ratio of one that is worth a hundred in an outnumbered war, it will be difficult even for me to come out to fight myself, then how can other one take so quick action to digest all the contents that I put up with my research for 18 years in an instance and absorb to make into his own knowledge to fight against them? What I have accumulated with my research is not so small and light thing like that. Anyone who has no background knowledge would not understand the meaning what I say.

 

Secondly, if Jee Man-Won is officially excluded, the truth-finding committee will lose its acceptability.

 

Thirdly, if Jee Man-Won is excluded and other one come inside instead, he is impossible to develop the facts and logic that I dug up. If anyone develop my theory, the people of the other side will say at once, “Isn’t that Jee Man-Won’s theory? Jee Man-Won is a man who is excluded, and his theory is also excluded one, then why do you come here and develop his theory? Throw it away”. If they insist like it, then he will have to shut his mouth up without even having a chance to develop his counterargument.

 

I don’t know why but anyhow, Nah Kyong-Won hurried to prepare for announcement of the names. A news media in Gwangju reported that the Party is said to announce about the selection of the members on January 7th. Another news media analyzed that the reason Nah Kyong-Won is doing like this is because she is attempting to draw a line against what lady Lee Soon-Ja said days ago. But if we take below into consideration, there seems to be other reason for that. Below are the facts that I got from the meeting with Nah Kyong-Won.

 

I (Nah Kyong-Won) met Suh Jong-Gab and Cho Gab-Je in advance. They denied North Korean troops’ intervention to the May 18th. Aren’t they the mainstream of rightist?

 

2. Few people believe North Korean troops’ intervention. Most people think that the May 18th was pro-democracy movement. In addition, public opinion is not so favorable to Jee Man-Won.

 

3. If Liberty Korea Party select this Jee Man-Won as a member of its party, then Liberty Korea Party might be recognized as an organization which denies pro-democracy movement of the May 18th. Liberty Korea Party does not want to be misunderstood like that. If the Party embrace Jee Man-Won, the Party’s reputation will go down.

 

She was reading the world the other way. She looked like a figure leading the party not on the cause of what is right and justice but under the calculation of what is advantageous to them. Nah Kyong-Won seems to have already fixed recommendation names. It even came to my mind that the names will probably be of those recommended by Suh Jong-Gab and Cho Gab-Je. On 7th January, the names looks to be pronounced from the mouth of Nah Kyong-Won. That seems to be a dismal prelude forecasting Liberty Korea Party’s defeat in general election.
