헤밍웨이의 노인

 

노인은 바다로 나갔다

아주 멀리

낚시를 문 고기가

너무 컸다

손에 피가 나고

근육에 쥐가 나고

 

큰 고기 배에 묶었다

상어 떼가 달려들었다

그들과 전쟁을 했다

노인은 뼈만 매달고 왔다

그 뼈만이

노인의 하루를 설명하는 증거였다

 

고기와 싸우느라 인생가고

상어와 싸우느라 인생가고

결국 남는 건 기록뿐이런가

The old man went out to the sea

  

Very far away

  

A fish took the hook

  

It was too big to pull

  

Bleeding from the hands

  

Cramping in the muscle

  

Attaching the giant fish to the boat

  

A swarm of sharks attacked

  

And fought against the sharks

  

The sharks devoured the fish

  

The old man defeated and returned home with the fish’s skeleton

  

attached to the boat

  

It was the evidence explaining the old man’s daily work

  

Spending whole life fighting against fishes

  

Spending whole life fighting against sharks

  

Oh,the only thing to be left over will be the documented evidences
